Privacy Policy
Chuchotage is a personal app for live speech translation, provided by Andrea Bertoncini. This policy explains the account, audio, and service data used to provide it.
Information the app uses
Chuchotage uses the audio source you select, your target language, transcript setting, platform and app build, and saved audio preferences. If you create a Chuchotage account, it also uses your email address, a random app-installation identifier, sign-in state, credit balance, and non-content translation-session records.
Chuchotage account mode
Account sign-in uses a six-digit code sent by email. The account service stores your normalized email address and verification time. It stores only cryptographic digests of access and refresh tokens; the usable tokens remain in secure storage on your device. Resend processes your email address to deliver the sign-in message.
Audio and transcripts
During an account-funded session, selected audio and translation events pass through Chuchotage's Hetzner-hosted relay to OpenAI. They are processed in memory to provide the live translation and are not written to Chuchotage's database, files, analytics, or transcript history. OpenAI returns translated audio and, when enabled, live transcript events. Chuchotage does not persist that content.
Personal OpenAI API-key mode
If you choose advanced personal API-key mode, the key is stored in secure storage on your device and the translation session connects directly from the app to OpenAI. Chuchotage does not receive the key, audio, or transcript events for that session.
Account and security records
The account service stores the random installation identifier, platform and build, credit-ledger entries, target language, whether source transcripts were enabled, and translation-session timing and status. The service processes an IP address for security and abuse prevention and stores a keyed digest rather than the raw address in the account database. Standard hosting security logs may temporarily process connection information.
Website
The website saves a manual language choice in your browser. If you have not chosen a language, it may use your connection address to suggest a country-level language. Chuchotage does not use advertising or analytics trackers.
Service providers
Chuchotage uses Hetzner for hosting, Resend for sign-in email, and OpenAI for live translation. Apple and Google process information when they distribute the app. These providers handle data under their own terms and privacy practices. OpenAI describes its API handling in its data controls. Chuchotage does not sell personal information, show ads, or use data for cross-app tracking.
Retention
Login challenges are removed after 24 hours. Revoked or expired authentication-session records are removed after their operational retention window. Welcome-credit IP digests, and the random installation identifier of a deleted account, are cleared after 30 days. Live database backups are retained for 14 days and then replaced. Email remains while the account is active. De-identified credit and non-content session records may remain for accounting, security, and abuse prevention.
Account deletion
You can delete your account in the app's account settings. This anonymizes the email in the live account database, revokes sign-in sessions, removes pending email challenges, and closes active relays. You can also request deletion at the account-deletion page. Backup copies age out within 14 days; de-identified non-content records may be retained for accounting, security, and abuse prevention.
Permissions and choices
Depending on your device and chosen source, Chuchotage may request microphone, notification, Bluetooth, screen, or system-audio permissions. Translation begins only after you start it. You can use a personal API key instead of a Chuchotage account, sign out, delete your account, clear app data, or revoke operating-system permissions.
Children
Chuchotage is not directed to children under 13.
