Privacy Policy

Chuchotage is a personal Android app for realtime speech translation. This policy explains what the app handles, why it handles it, and where that information goes.

Information the app handles

When you use Chuchotage, the app may handle microphone audio, translated audio, the selected output language, the preferred microphone source, and your chosen OpenAI credential. The credential may be an OpenAI API key or ChatGPT/Codex-style tokens.

How information is used

Microphone audio is used to provide realtime translation after you start a translation session. The selected output language is used to request the translated audio language. Credentials are used only to authenticate translation requests.

Local storage

Credentials are stored on the device using Android secure storage backed by the Android Keystore. Output language and microphone preferences are also stored on the device. You can remove saved data by clearing the app's storage in Android settings.

Sharing and processors

Chuchotage does not sell personal information, show ads, use analytics SDKs, or operate a hosted app backend for normal use. During an active translation session, microphone audio and translation configuration are sent directly from the device to OpenAI to perform realtime translation.

Permissions

The app requests microphone access for translation, notification access for the foreground translation service, Bluetooth-related access when needed for headset microphones, and internet access to reach OpenAI services.

Retention

The developer does not receive or store your microphone audio, translated audio, or credentials through a Chuchotage server. Data stored locally remains on your device until you clear app storage or replace the saved credential.

Children

Chuchotage is not directed to children under 13.
